Naxos is an island in the Cyclades archipelago and is mainly accessible by sea, with daily ferry connections to many other Greek islands such as Mykonos, Santorini and Crete.
From equipped beaches to wild coves, Naxos has a variety of beaches to suit all tastes, with one thing in common: the azure, almost blue and transparent waters!
Which are the best beaches in Naxos? Here is our list of the 8 top beaches in Naxos!
The island of Naxos is located in Greece and is part of the Cyclades archipelago. It is a small island, but it has a lot to offer and has not yet been overrun by mass tourism. The best time to visit Naxos is from spring to autumn (April to September) and, if you can, the best months are May, June and September when the temperatures are almost summery and the number of tourists on the island is still low.
The area of Naxos is very varied. You can choose between hiking in the mountains of the interior or visiting the typical villages of the interior, strolling through the alleys of Naxos town or spending a day at one of the beautiful beaches of the island.
The most beautiful beaches of Naxos are mainly on the east coast, all easily accessible and different from each other. The beaches on the west coast of Naxos are wilder and more difficult to reach, as this part of the island has a poorly developed road network.
In this article we will discuss the beaches of Naxos on the east coast that we visited and that are definitely worth a trip to this fantastic island. Here are the 8 best beaches in Naxos!
Agios Georgios beach is just a short walk from the centre of Naxos, so it’s the most convenient if you’re staying in the town. It’s not in our top three of the best beaches in Naxos, but it’s a good choice for those looking for a quiet, well-equipped beach. So it might be the perfect solution for families and those who don’t want to travel far from the town centre.
The beach is about 1 km long and 50 m wide, and it’s made of fine white sand. The water is clear and transparent, but not always.
The sea here is always very calm, as the beach faces a well-protected bay, making it one of the most child-friendly beaches on Naxos. The beach is very popular with families, especially in high season.
The bay in which the beach is located is lined with numerous bars and restaurants, making it an ideal place for a relaxing afternoon, but also for a romantic dinner with a view of the exceptional Naxos sunset.

Agios Prokopios beach is the most popular beach on Naxos. It’s got a beautiful turquoise sea and fine white sand and it’s one of the Naxos top beaches. It’s only a 10-minute drive from Naxos town.
The beach is really popular, especially in the high season, and has all the facilities you could need for a great stay, including sunbeds, umbrellas, bars and restaurants. One of the best things about this beach is that you can order food and drinks directly from your sunbed to the waiters at the beach bars. Some people love this convenience, while others find it a little too much.
Agios Prokopios beach is the one most frequented by young people. The bathing establishments are very well-kept and ‘chic’ and the clubs organise fun evenings with music. Those who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere can take advantage of the long stretch of free beach in the centre of the bay. Despite the crowds on the beach, we found Agios Prokopios beach to be absolutely one of the top beaches in Naxos.
Agia Anna Beach is one of the top beaches in Naxos. It’s only a five-minute drive from Agios Prokopios. This beach is less crowded than its neighbour, but just as beautiful. If you don’t need superbly equipped establishments, but prefer peace and quiet, we recommend you opt for this beach rather than its neighbour.
The beach has two parts: an equipped area with sun beds and umbrellas and a free area further south and close to a small promontory. We recommend you take a walk there to enjoy the view of the bay from above. On this promontory there is also a small church, which makes a great spot to take photos of the blue sea of Naxos, contrasting with this small building. You can also admire the whole beauty of Agia Anna Naxos beach from above and appreciate all the shades of blue. Just a heads-up for boats: there is a jetty in the bay, so be careful when entering the water and when bathing as boats pass through the bay, even in the shallowest waters.
The sea at Agia Anna Naxos beach is really lovely and clear, and very calm as the beach is in a bay that’s quite sheltered from the wind.
Maragkas beach is located south of Agia Anna beach, about 5 km away. It’s a long beach, both equipped and free, stretching for about 4 km. The water here is a bit rougher because the beach is more exposed, but the good thing is that the beach is so long that you can find a quiet spot if you want to relax.
The sand is fine and white, and the water is crystal clear. The beach is very busy, especially in high season, but you can relax on the free stretches of sand, especially in the southern part.
The beach is bordered by a road lined with lots of restaurants, where you can have lunch, dinner or just enjoy a drink and admire the sunset over the sea. The restaurants along the road bordering the beach are really nice and offer local cuisine.

Orkos beach is in the south-west of the island. It’s a small beach with fine sand, crystal-clear waters and shallow waters. The beach is surrounded by rocks and trees, which create a lovely, secluded atmosphere. If you don’t want to stay in a fully-equipped place, you can use the plants around part of the beach to lay out your towel and enjoy the relaxation of Orkos beach.
Orkos is less touristy than other beaches on Naxos because it’s more secluded. In fact, the beach is in a bay protected from the wind, so it’s ideal for those who want to relax.
The sea here is a beautiful, turquoise colour, and for us it’s definitely the best beach in Naxos.
Aliko Beach is located in the south-western part of the island of Naxos. It’s a small bay nestled between rocks, surrounded by a cedar forest. The beach has fine white sand, crystal-clear waters and shallow waters. There are no restaurants or services, except for a small street food truck at the beginning of the path leading to the beach, where you can buy a quick lunch.
The beach is only accessible on foot, via a path through the cedar forest. The walk is about 20 minutes and offers a spectacular view of the bay.
Aliko is a beach where you can relax in nature and enjoy the sun and the sea, far from the hustle and bustle of the more crowded beaches.
Aliko beach is one of the top beaches in Naxos, thanks to its unspoilt and relaxed atmosphere and, of course, the beauty of its waters.
Pirgaki beach is located in a beautiful bay, surrounded by red rocks and cedar trees. The sea is a deep blue, contrasting with the white of the sand. The waters are crystal clear and the seabed shallow.
If you’re looking for a secluded and unspoilt beach, Pirgaki is the perfect destination for you.
We also suggest you stop for dinner at one of the small traditional bars or restaurants with seats near the beach, so you can enjoy the sunset.
Kastraki Beach
Kastraki beach is located in the south of the island of Naxos. It’s a long, golden sandy beach with crystal-clear waters and shallow waters. The beach is surrounded by rocks and trees, creating a really enchanting and secluded atmosphere.
Kastraki is a less touristy beach than other beaches on Naxos, due to the strong winds that blow from the north. The winds, which are particularly strong in summer, make the beach ideal for windsurfers and other water sports fans.
The beach is about 3 kilometres long and is divided into two zones: North Kastraki and South Kastraki. The northern zone is windier and wilder, while the southern zone is more sheltered and offers a greater variety of facilities, such as sunbeds, umbrellas and bars.
