Surely you have heard of the wonderful beaches of Mauritius, famous for their enchanting coastline lapped by crystal-clear waters. And there is no doubt that this reputation is well founded! From the picturesque beach of Le Morne to the white sands of Ile aux Cerfs, each stretch of coastline is a true paradise.
In this article, we provide you with a list of the 15 top beaches in Mauritius that you absolutely cannot miss!
During our unforgettable 10-day trip to Mauritius, we had the opportunity to explore numerous beaches, from the northern to the southern tip of the island. Each stretch of coastline offered us a unique experience, from stretches of white sand to Mauritius beaches where you can snorkel, and now we’re happy to share with you our ‘Best beaches in Mauritius’ list where you’ll find 15 incredible dream spots!
Ile Plate and Ilot Gabriel are two adjacent islands located in the north, easily accessible by boat from Grand Baie beach.
A visit to these two islands is an experience not to be missed; the scenery is heavenly, especially when the tide is low and tongues of white sand emerge in the middle of the sea.
There are some beautiful snorkelling areas on these islands: on Ile Plate there is a vast area of blue corals, while on Ilot Gabriel it is possible to spot sea turtles. It is an extraordinary opportunity to immerse yourself in the underwater beauty of Mauritius and discover its rich marine life.
Certainly Ile Plate and Ilot Gabriel are home to some of the best beaches in Mauritius.

Flic en Flac Beach is definitely one of the ‘Best beaches in Mauritius’ list and is located on the south-west coast of Mauritius and is one of the most popular destinations for tourists and locals alike.
We were lucky enough to visit on a Sunday and were completely immersed in the lively local atmosphere.
There is a family and festive atmosphere where everyone seems to turn the beach into a small community. People bring endless amounts of food for lunch, tables, stoves and more. There are also those playing sports, others dancing the saw, a typical Mauritian music, and those relaxing in the shade of the trees.
The beach at Flic en Flac is extremely charming and stretches over a considerable length. In this area there are both large resorts and large stretches of free beach.
We were able to snorkel at some interesting spots, although unfortunately some of the boats from the nearby resorts pass quickly through the coastal area.
Not to be missed is the sunset on this beach, perhaps one of the most spectacular we had the pleasure of admiring on the island!

Tamarin Beach is located about twenty minutes south of Flic en Flac, in the south-west of Mauritius.
This beach is unspoilt and is not the typical place where one finds large resorts, but rather small, enviable beach cottages, often belonging to lucky pensioners.
The waters in this bay are calm and peaceful, and there is also the mouth of a small river, making it an ideal place to learn to surf. It is a unique opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty and peace of a less frequented beach in beautiful Mauritius and definitely deserves to be on our list of the top beaches in Mauritius.
Trou aux Biches beach is located along the north-west coast of the island.
It is a long stretch of white sand, framed by majestic palm trees, an ideal setting for taking a dip in the crystal-clear waters and enjoying a pleasant rest.
In the car park near the beach there are a few take-away trucks, where you can stop for a delicious lunch.

Poste la Fayette beach is located along the east coast of Mauritius, and is a lesser-known gem for tourists, but no less fascinating, quite the contrary! It was one of our favourite beaches and is high on our list of the best beaches in Mauritius.
Access to this beach is extremely convenient thanks to ample parking.
We stayed here for one morning, during which we were able to enjoy it completely deserted. There are no resorts around the beach, which is a plus point as there are no boats bobbing around in the sea, creating a very quiet and relaxing atmosphere.
The waters in the bay are calm and shallow, and you can snorkel among the rocks.
Pereybere Beach is located on the north coast of the island, between Grand Baie and Bain Boeuf. This charming beach is a small cove with white sand and turquoise sea.
It is a little more crowded than the neighbouring beaches, partly because it is smaller and partly because it is so beautiful.
Pereybere is popular with both tourists and local Mauritians. There are plenty of takeaway food stalls nearby offering local delicacies.

The beach of Anse la Raie is a rather wild destination, perhaps not one of the best beaches in Mauritius, but it is particularly suitable for those who enjoy water sports.
This beach is a lagoon with a gentle current, which makes it ideal for kitesurfing or windsurfing. So if you are a water sports enthusiast, this beach could be the perfect choice for you!
One of the most popular excursions in Mauritius is definitely the one to the island of Ile aux Cerfs, located east of the main island.
During the high season, we recommend that you book your excursion to this island well in advance, as it is in high demand and you may risk not finding availability. Ile aux Cerfs can be reached by boat from several places along the coast, including Blue Bay and Mahebourg.
The beach at Ile aux Cerfs is remarkable, characterised by fine, white sand and crystal-clear, shallow waters in the lagoon, making it accessible to all. It is truly a place not to be missed!
The beach of Grand Baie is located in the centre of the resort of the same name and is a large bay located near the main town.
Along this beach, you will find various shops and clubs that create a lively atmosphere. In addition, Grand Baie is the starting point for many boat excursions from the northern part of the island.
Blue Bay is a small bay located on the south-east coast of Mauritius and is a very frequent starting point for day trips.
It is the best beach in Mauritius for snorkeling due to the variety of coral present, but you need to pay attention to boat traffic.
Around Blue Bay, there are several take-away kiosks where you can enjoy a delicious and cheap lunch.
The beach of Bain Boeuf is located in the northern part of the coast of Mauritius and is a well-kept little gem.
A long wooden walkway leads to the white sandy beach that overlooks a picturesque bay with shades ranging from azure to blue.
We decided to make a stop at this enchanting spot, taking the opportunity to explore the shallow waters between the rocks near the shore, snorkelling. After our swim, we relaxed, enjoying a delicious freshly harvested coconut!
Belle Mare beach is located along the east coast and is a long, rather narrow beach.
As it is not in a sheltered bay, it is less sheltered than other beaches, which means that it may be windy on certain occasions.
This beach has light-coloured sand and is separated from the road by palm trees and a pretty lawn where one can lie down and rest.
Bras d’Eau beach is located along the east coast of Mauritius, and, just like in Poste la Fayette, is a place where we found very few people.
This beach is very charming and unique due to the mangroves that grow on small islets nearby.
The Bras d’Eau beach has white sand and deep coloured waters, creating a breathtaking setting.
Along the beach, there are a few trees under which you can rest and enjoy a moment of relaxation.

Mont Choisy beach is located near Grand Baie, near the town of Le Clos Choisy.
This charming beach is located in a beautiful bay, surrounded by vegetation and offers a spectacular view of the sunset over the sea. This beach is very large and is not particularly crowded.
The Le Morne peninsula, located at the south-western tip of the island, is home to one of the most iconic beaches on the entire island. Le Morne beach is renowned not only for its unparalleled beauty, but also for being one of the most photographed subjects from every possible angle.
The aerial images of the Le Morne peninsula are particularly spectacular, as the currents seem to form an underwater waterfall.
The beach is equally fascinating and is an extremely photogenic place, thanks to the majestic presence of Le Morne mountain rising behind it.
Given the fame and extraordinary beauty of Le Morne beach, it is here that most of the luxury resorts in Mauritius are located. However, there is also a long stretch of public beach, flanked by bars and small restaurants, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch in the shade of the palm trees.
